European Medicines Agency (EMA): the Agency takes a further step in its interaction with patients and consumers
by IAPO at 2:24PM Thursday 14 January 2010 (News)
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has taken a further step in its interaction with patients and consumers. Recognising that patients and consumers bring a unique perspective and contribute to discussions on the real-life implications of regulatory decisions, the EMA's Management Board endorsed a new strategy to further involve patients and consumers in the work of the Agency.

The new strategy makes a number of proposals that considerably widen the scope of patients' and consumers' contribution to the EMA. This includes consultation during benefit-risk evaluation of medicines, participation as observers in meetings of the Pharmacovigilance Working Party and contribution to the Agency's safety communication. The new strategy also foresees financial support to facilitate the participation of patients' and consumers' representatives.

The document endorsed by the EMA's Management Board is available here.
