by IAPO at 6:02PM Thursday 04 February 2010 (News)
Joanna Groves, IAPO’s Chief Executive Officer, attended the World Health Organization (WHO) Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) Meeting in Geneva. IAPO, as a member of the PFPS steering group, met with the other members of PFPS to discuss issues in improving patient safety.

Members of PFPS recently met at the WHO in Geneva to review its progress towards improving patient safety worldwide and to consider priorities for future work.  During the first day of the meeting, PFPS Champions, shared the work they have been undertaking in the WHO regions.  On the second day there was an opportunity to meet with WHO representatives from a number of other WHO Patient Safety areas of work including the first and second Global Challenges on clean care and safer surgery, the African Partnerships for Patient Safety (APPS) Programme) and research into patient safety.  During the meeting there was also significant time spent in future planning with the consideration of priorities which will guide PFPS’s work for 2010 and beyond.

IAPO has been a member of the PFPS steering group since 2004 and a number of Patients for Patient Safety Champions are from IAPO member groups. Further information about Patients for Patient Safety and its work is available on the WHO website here.  Anna Lee from PFPS will be facilitating a workshop session on patient safety at the IAPO Global Patients Congress, 23-25 February 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey.  Further information about this session and the Congress is available online here.
