What next?
IAPO has started planning for the 6th Global Patients Congress in 2014. This will continue to explore how to achieve patient-centred healthcare and what success will look like.
The 6th Global Patients Congress provides us with an opportunity to move forwards with this work, collectively defining and identifying indicators so that we are able to show the impact of patient-centred healthcare. The 6th Congress also corresponds with the ending of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the beginning of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), allowing for important discussions during the event regarding what the role of the patient is in these global initiatives, and what our priorities are. IAPO will send out information on the next Global Patients Congress in due course and will strive to create an event that will further strengthen the patient voice.

In March, IAPO held its most successful Congress yet. The Congress provided opportunities for patients’ organizations and other stakeholders to network and build partnerships, gain knowledge, share information and experiences and learn about new tools and initiatives. The theme of the 5th Global Patients Congress was ‘Achieving Patient-centred Healthcare: Indicators of Progress and Success’ and IAPO launched its
