IAPO Latin America Programme 2013 - 23-25 September 2013 - Mexico City, Mexico

Español

In September 2013, IAPO held a series of meetings with the aim of strengthening the patient voice in Latin America and the report from the events has now been published. The report includes details of the activities as well as the key outcomes and next steps for the regional network in Latin America.

This is the third time IAPO has brought together a variety of stakeholders, including patients’ organizations, policy makers, health professionals and industry representatives to debate key issues for patients in Latin America. This year the main focus was on global strategies to fight the growing burden of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), biological and biosimilar medicines and mechanisms for access to healthcare.

Whilst in Mexico IAPO held three events, a half day meeting for local Mexican patients’ organizations, a multi-stakeholder seminar and reception focusing on patient-centred access to healthcare in the region and a two day workshop for IAPO member patients’ organizations from across Latin America.

During the Multi-stakeholder seminar Dr. Oleg Chestnov, Assistant Director-General in Non-communicable Diseases & Mental Health at the World Health Organization (WHO) also shared a statement specifically developed for the seminar which shared information on global strategies to address NCDs.
